When planning to climb Mount Elgon via Piswa, Sipi & Bushiyi Trails trails, you'll will be required to pay park entrance fees, which vary by residency status as below;

• Foreign Non-Residents: $50 per person per day

• Foreign Residents: $40 per person per day

• East Africans: 50,000 UGX per person per day

Note that these entrance fees include the services of a guide provided by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and you can pay this money at any of the UWA Offices or through your Tour Operator.

Hiking Tour Costs for Piswa, Sipi & Bushiyi Trails

Porter Fees

When climbing Mount Elgon on these trails, hiring a porter is required and necessary. Although it may seem unfamiliar to some hikers, their assistance is invaluable. Porters will carry your luggage, allowing you to hike freely and enjoy the experience without the burden of heavy bags. Porters play a vital role in transporting your backpack, food, water, camping gear, and more. And the cost for hiring a porter is $12 per day per porter. Don't worry about arranging for one; your booking operator will remind you and will take care of it for you.

Chef

You need a chef to cook your food and you will hire at $12 per day.

Camping Gear and Camping Fees

Renting Camping Gear

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has provided basic structures at various campsites, but it's recommended to bring your own tent, sleeping bags, and sleeping mats for added safety and comfort.

If you don't have your own gear, you can rent from your tour operator for a fee.

Rental costs for our gears are:

• Tent: $10 - $15 per night

• Sleeping bag: $5-$8 per night

• Sleeping mat: $5-$8 per night

Camping Fees

Additionally, UWA charges a camping/lodging fee of $12 per person per night.

Food and water costs

Just like any other human being who eats to live, Food is a basic need. During your trek, you'll need to stay energized with sufficient water and food. If you're booking through a tour operator, be sure to communicate your dietary requirements in advance. Food costs start at around $15 per day per person. Your tour operator will likely remind you to specify your needs, so you can enjoy a comfortable and nourishing experience.
